Many people loath this day while I love it. I really love any Holiday, I just like getting festive!

This Valentine's Day I was more inspired than ever with my issue of Martha Stewart Living at hand. Thanks Grams! She had so many amazing ideas that were of course DIY and featured one cookie that I just had to try. The perfect couple, Peanut Butter and Jam, make a baby baby: The Peanut Butter and Jam Heart Cookie. This cookie starts off like any other however mid way through you use your thumb to indent a heart that you eventually fill with Jam. Recipe can be found in her February issue.

I found that the deeper the heart shape the better the jam sits and the better it looks!

Good for the soul

There are many ways people try to beat the winter blues. It's hard to wear rose coloured glasses while just wanting to crawl under your comforter and wake up to Spring. Shopping is a good way to pick up your spirits (always) but it took something different this week to keep me smiling. Fresh flowers.

3. Lilacs

These may not be my top 3 however they are flowers that immediately brighten my day. I love having fresh crop in my apartment. I thought this was just me yet it turns out after reading February's Martha Stewart Magazine that it is a proven fact. It's a great inexpensive way to lift your spirits.

Although there still may be snow on the ground, these mums that I picked up from the grocery store bring little sunshine into my day.

In these photos the bows seem a little bit large and tacky but perfectly paired with some boyfriend jeans, simple tee and some sick heels I think it's the perfect feminine touch. My choice would be the nude patent.

Destination Argentina

These photos are not mine. I discovered them through my friend's Christmas album. It was love at first sight. I immediatley requested that I use them for my own good. She traveled to Argentina with her family over the Holidays and their main reason for their destination was: Wine. Sounds like my kind of family.

"Probably in Mendoza when we did an off-road jeep excursion up the Andes Mountains. It took about 6 hours to get to the top and we were going through dried up river beds and we saw some cool animals (Al paca and Chinchilla-which make amazing coats). When we reached the top, our guides broughts us to a secluded hut where there was a 'parrilla'' waiting for us- which is an Argentinean barbecue. Its basically all different kinds of meat, tongue, intestines, blood sausage...etc." yummmy.

This is one is my ultimate favourite.

Breathe of fresh air

I LOVE NAIL POLISH. I do.

Nothing completes an outfit with a perfectly polished nail. As much as I love slapping on another coat, I do take a couple days in between colours to allow my nails to breathe. It's refreshinng to remeber what your nails look like naked and it is also just good for them in general to not have the chemicals and toxins on and let them breeeeeeath. One tool that I keep with with me at all times is this nail and cuticle treatment. You can use it with polish on or off and (more beneficially sans polish to really reap the benefits of the treatment)

Im excited for Spring as the next girl but one way we can get a little taste of Spring is on the end of our frozen little fingers. I learned through other fab beauty bloggers that this beautiful Spring 2011 Collection from Essie hits drugstores in Canada February 8th! Hurrah!

The collection is called French Affair and deliver a breath of fresh air during the dead of winter. I can't wait to get my hands on them. They were an inspiration to paint my nails a barely-there, classic go-to: Bubble Bath for OPI.

So yes - I am a little late in posting this but because the actual picture itself isn't the greatest. I tried several different programs to edit it but alas it is still blurry. Since I made such a fuss with this skirt it just needed to be done. Cannot wait to purchase a ~~new~~ ~~camera~~ special something for my birthday gift to myself this year! (Come on, I know I'm not the only one that does that. Right?)

This outfit includes some family gems. When I was a little girl, I remember looking through my Grandmother's jewelry time and time again in complete awe. She had SO much of it. Well this jewelry infatuation has since spread to my mother and now onto me.

Of course I know, I pretty much know everyday. Going back to work means more work ensembles and even though the holidays have been swell, it's about time I step out of my wunder unders and into some real clothing that (yikes) includes a waistband. At least this waistband has a bow.

I am normally more of a neutral girl, so this outfit that somehow emerged out of my head (I blame the Kate Spade book) was a little risky. So was posting it. Then I reminded myself that in order to be extraordinary in life, you have to take some risks. So this was my risk for today, what was yours?

Personal Hangover Cure: Pampering

Well New Years Eve was really a night to remember but the next morning was something I would have like to forget. In Toronto, it was a perfectly rainy and drab day which was the perfect recipe for staying indoors and curing a hangover. I decided to spend my day doing just that but a little more fabulously than usual. I created my very own at-home spa! It will instantly make you feel more glamourous. Below are some items that I had on hand and some that I wish I could get my hands on. I highly recommend this routine at least once a month or more if possible.

1. A nice scented candle. This will always give you a nice aroma in the air whether you are on the couch or in the bath.

2. This past weekend I indulged in the February issue of ELLE Canada. A good magazine tends to take my mind of the head ache and into my dream world.

3. A long string of pearls. A guarantee feeling of glamour and Carrie Bradshaw.

4."Things We Love" by Kate Spade. This book isn't sold in bookstores only in her stores, boo for us, but I found my favourite page, p. 73. Peonies, perfection.

5. A cashmere sweater. So soft against your skin and makes you feel a queen!

6. A face mask. This will help remove any ~~remaining making up from the night before~~ and leave you feeling refreshed and soft.

Top 10 of 2010

It's been a good two weeks that I have now been home from my vacation in Jamaica. It was hard adjustment to reality. I fell in love with vacation and our break up hurt. Soon enough it was Christmas time and I was feeling the hustle and bustle more than ever having to start and finish my shopping in two days made my a little nuts but when it was all said and done, the Holidays were lovely. Now, oddly enough, it is time bid farewell to 2010 and cheers to 2011. Below (in no particular rank or order) are a couple of my favourite and most thankful moments of 2010, I'm excited to move forward into 2011 with you all!

1. Went to school and came out with a Public Relations Certificate. I also met some cool people along the way.

2. One of my favourite shoes from Fall 2010 shoes. No wait I think this is it, yep, this is my FAVOURITE. Unfortunately they do not live in my closet but are still beautiful just to look at. Oh yes and they have a bow. Of course.

3. This ostrich feather skirt was a key piece added to my winter wardrobe. It was love at first sight. I will be wearing this little number while ringing in the New Year.

4. Someone who I turned to for daily outfit inspiration: Olivia Palermo. Yeah she may be a bitch on a show or maybe even in real life however, I like her style. No, I LOVE it.

5. Finishing the Chilly Half Marathon with my best time yet! Hurrah!

6. And then I got a job in PR. Seemed fitting after school and all.

7. Christmas 2010 I was lucky enough to receive, from a stylish bro, a VOGUE subscription... come on 2011.

8. Cottage weekends and sunsets. I was lucky to spend some summer and fall weekends up north. Feels good for my soul.

9. An amazing week with three of my best lady friends. We enjoyed breakfast right by this very window. I miss those mornings in Jamaica and Fantasia :)

10. David Gray and Ray LaMontagne. Need I say more. They were that good.

With a trip to a little place I like to call Jamaica less than 5 days away, I have have no longer been planning my outfits with leather and fur rather bright colors linen and fruit. Yes, you read that correctly, fruit.

One of my favourite lines to hit the runway for Spring 2011 was Stella McCartney's RTW. Check out the whole collection here. What did it for me? The fruit. Weird I know, but ever since I saw this collection I have been tres excited to pull out some old fruit accessories I had in the closet. Glad I didn't throw them out! I would love to be able to go out and buy some of Stella's threads but in the mean time, plastic fruit necklaces inspired by her will do.

Books are such a good gift to give and receive. Especially pretty, information and fashionable ones like this one.

The Fashion File is a book by Janie Bryant that gives you a behind the scene look at the amazing show that is: MAD MEN. I am pretty much obsessed with this show right now, even though the fourth season is over I am anxiously awaiting for the fifth. I love how it takes me back through time and gives you the feeling of what it was like to be at an Advertising agency in the 1950's. One thing that gets me every show are the outfits. They are so well put together and I love how all the ladies truly looks like "ladies". They don't just leave the house with heels and a jacket like most women rather they leave the house with a full on outfit, matching jacket, hat, scarf, purse and gloves to boot. Not to mention their layers upon layers of underwear. I love seeing what the women are wearing and often feel that I was born in the wrong era. I also feel that the amount of tailoring was much greater back then and it shows. Everything fits them perfectly, has it's own purpose and their clothing has it's own character. Unlike these days where a lot of people's clothing is worn with almost little to no thought given to what they are saying about themself.

Love these girls.

There really is something to be said about designing costumes. Having studied costumes, BRIEFLY, I have an appreciation for all the thought that goes into them. Mad Men as a show actually inspires some of my personal outfits. I think Janie Bryant does an amazing job and I am really interested in reading January Jones' foreword. Her character Betty on the show doesn't do much and really pisses me off sometimes so it would be a really interesting read.

Since gift guides have seemingly taken over my life these past couple of weeks I thought I would put together my own little guy.

1. Silver-Plated Julep Cup - Monograms have a special place in my heart. I love the personable factor. It takes an extra step to give a gift that that is monogramed and I appreciate that.

2. Cute Tea Set - There is something to be said for enjoying warm tea with a friend in a cute tea cup in saucer.

3. Bodum Coffee Press - I need one. It will help me to finally use all those cute reusable mugs I have in my cupboard.

4. Moleskine - 2011 of course. I like the 18-month weekly agenda with pocket.

5. Issey Miyake - Eau du Parfum. Oldie but goodie and it's time for an 'ol refill.

6. House of Harlow - Okay this has now been on the market for years but I just haven't come around to actually purchasing it for myself. Shoes may have gotten in the way.

7. Aveda Candle - I love the beach!!!! (t-12 days till Jamaica!) and anything that will help transport me from my home that is cold Canada to the Carribean, is on my list of things to own.

'Tis the Season!

Alright so it's officially Christmas time... in my world at least.

After watching the Christmas Parade this afternoon I had the plan to bake little gingerbread men today. Since I am still a rookie at baking and building my collection of tools, I needed to venture out and pick up some supplies. First on the list, cookie cutter! Seeing as this was a crucial part of this cookie making adventure, I headed to Williams and Sonoma. Obviously they had the most perfect one ever and what else to get you in the spirit of baking then stopping and smelling the aroma of that store. I was stoked to have these guys in my newly Holiday decorated apartment!

Not so much. I followed the directions, measured the ingredients and even bought a rolling pin and they didn't work. I don't know what happened! The dough looked okay, I thought it was going to be a success but I was wrong. The dough just didn't want to stay together like a man. So instead, I made boring old round cookies. Later, I thought this was a good lesson for me. Don't ask me how I turned failed baking into a life lesson but I did. Barf I know.

I was so frustrated with the fact that the dough didn't want to stay together, that I was about to throw the newly bought rolling pin through the window and my batter at the wall. That would have been nice to clean up afterwards, I'm glad I came to my senses. Instead I told myself that not everything in life, whether it be baking, my career or relationships will work out perfectly. So I came to terms with the fact that I wasn't going to go have gingerbread men in my kitchen today, maybe another day.

Girls Weekend

This past weekend I headed North with some girlfriends. It was time for some fresh air and a fresh perspective. I love the city but I equally love the outdoors and it turned out to be a chilly yet beautifully sunny weekend. We really "Girlified" the weekend with amazing food, fitness and of course some at home spa treatments (a.k.a painting our nails).

Check out our wonderful brunch. It is my favourite meal of life and this little recipe may have made it to the top of the list! Prepared by our wonderful chefs it was most definitely a feast to enjoy! It also looked easy enough to try on my own. This Saturday, done.

Next up running. It felt good to get out there with my partner and run on the roads with barely any cars. That 6km run also made me feel a little better about the whipping cream we had eaten earlier :).

I was totally psyched about this nail colour. I had seen it posted on the blogosphere and on twitter and was simply delighted with how it turned out! It's not too dark of a green and close to Chanel's Khaki Nailpolish line without the price tag.

Fall is slipping away but I am making every last day count before there is snow on the ground. I'm not really looking forward to trees without leaves however I do like how they cover the ground. Fun to kick around. I decided that I would post an outfit from this past weekend. Won't be able to wear vests much longer! I'm amazed that I held onto this oldie but goodie of a vest. I bought it years ago at Le Chateau. Who knew it would still come in handy? I would also like to introduce you to Calista, the newest addition to my handbag family.

Happy Halloween!

Although this post is a tad late I really wanted to celebrate one of my favourite holidays of the year!

I hope you all had or are having a fantastic Halloween and enjoyed dressing up. This year I was the lovely Joan from the show Mad Men. I learned that I am most definitely not the most attractive red head although I did find myself a handsome Roger :)

Since I would not be trick or treating this year, I wanted to make something to treat myself with. At work I am involved with "mommy bloggers" and every now and then I actually enjoy one or two. One blog had cupcakes I just wanted to make, so introducing: Eyeball Cupcakes! They were easy to make and fun to decorate (my favourite part).

Step 1:
Alright I guess I have to confess... I made them out of the box. Use 1 package of chocolate cake mix and 1 package of JELL-O Chocolate Cooked Pudding and Pie Filling. Bake accordingly and fill the cake paper liners 2/3 full. This was a little learning for me as I filled the cups right to the top and these guys are a little larger than anticipated.

Step 2:

To make the icing, use 1 package of Philadelphia Brick Cream Cheese, mixed together with 1/4 cup butter, 1 tsp. vanilla and lastly 4 cups icing sugar, sifted. Beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition. Spread evenly onto cupcakes.

Step 3:

Gather 24 ring-shaped chewy fruit snacks, I was looking everywhere for those green rings however I had to get creative, as candy was in high demand, and cut the sour key rings to look more like circles. Count out 24 M&M's or Smarties.

Step 4:
Decorate! Use the red decorating gel to make the veins of the eyeball and enjoy!

Makes 24 cupcakes.

Read My Lips

I like colour on my lips. Anytime of day.
When I first noticed the trend of the darker lip I was hesitant to try. Yes, I like playing with make-up from time to time but to be honest, I stick to a pretty routine make-up application every morning so stepping outside of that routine is more like walking on the wild side. Then I thought of one of my favourite questions: "Why Not?" COME ON it's a lipstick, you can take it off!!! So I played with it and I surprisingly liked it!

At first glance it's like whoa, but when applied to the lips you appreciate the colour. This particular little guy is from The Body Shop's Delipcious line and in the shade Elderberry ($12.00).

The cool thing with this line is that it's created from 100% food grade ingredients, with naturally derived ingredients, natural food flavouring and fruit seed oils. This colour for me is pretty much strictly night time wear so for daytime I went to a little friend named JOE.

The inspiration came from Miss Blair Waldorf. While watching Gossip Girl I noted that she always had a nice shade of gloss on. It was just right. A little pink, a little red, shiney yet subtle. When I glanced over at Joe's beauty line I saw it and I said to myself "Kelly, thats the one".

Joe had many shades in their Fresh Glass line but this shade is Pomegranate ($6.00). After closer inspection, I learned that there were little hints of sparkle in the gloss and I was disappointed yet surprisingly pleased when I tried it on. They just seemed to disappear in this gloss of perfection.

Fitness R U T

And I'm climbing out. Last year at this time I had completed my second of three half marathons of the year. This year I am NOWHERE near that, and it just doesn't feel good. Remember those running goals I had? Yeah, sad to say but I didn't complete one of them.

These past couple months I have just been flat out lazy (catching up on some serious Mad Men episodes, yeah I am only on season 2, I know I'm behind) and not feeling like myself. I'm simply not doing enough exercise and it's bringing me down. So today at work while I was completing media drops throughout the city I decided that I was NO LONGER going to use "no time" as an excuse, because it was working quite well for me.
Some ways I feel that I am going to complete this mission of getting back in shape are:

1. Plan.
I am going to plan my work outs for the week and commit myself to them. I know I am not going to realistically run 10km every day when life gets busy but having goals is a step.

2. Write it down.
This little idea came to my yesterday while watching Bulging Brides.
I am going to write down my intake so I can monitor how I am doing. Often after a couple of days of eating and exercising well I tend to feel entitled to something BAD. This book will be a little reminder of how I feel when I eat well.

3.Sign up.
I love to run and however I get nervous with the darker days and running alone so I am going to sing up for a gym! I don't really LOVE the thought of GoodLife but they offer classes and I enjoy that. I just hate juice heads. Tonight is my first class, a Pump class that is apparently high energy and lots of fun! Oh and the gym is in the mall. What a coincidence!?

4. Look cute, feel cuter.
Being a past employee of lululemon athletica, I know cute work out clothes. Luckily over the two years I had worked there I accumulated a nice sum of clothing to work out in. I am an honest believer that looking good while working out is a source of motivation.

5. Make work out dates!
Although this plan didn't really pan out this past Sunday, in bed cancelling my yoga plans, I do think it is more fun to work out with friends and the good ones hold you accountable to your commitments and call you out when you are being a baby.

6. Get good jams.
Nothing says "Go for a run Kelly" than a good song. My newest fav running tune is Jamiroquai- White Knuckle Ride. Dooo itttt.

Thanksgiving has come and gone and I am holding on to that feeling of being thankful, especially for the little things. One of these things include benefits from work! It's one of those "don't know what you have until it's gone" kinda things and while I was going through school last year without having massages...well lets just say things got a little tense.

One of my favourite things to do is visit the spa. "A spa? Isn't that kind of like your mother ship?" - Legally Blonde 2 anyone?

Well yes, I clearly have a lot of favourite things but few things make me feel as good as a massage. Having never booked one in Toronto before, I went to the trusty 'ol google and searched for a spa in the east end. My hood. One came up that was close to both work and home so it was meant to be!

I went for a basic massage but there are so many other treatments I would love to try! I also learned this is an all woman's club. You can go, hang out in their lounge area and just relax. As I was leaving, a woman walked out with a fresh new mani pedi and just casually said to charge it to her account. Now THAT would be nice, screw benefits. Just kidding. I recommend that you go and if you are heading for a massage, ask for Jodie, she was just so sweet! (pardon the pun)

Lucky

Whenever I hear of people winning cool things, my first reaction is "damn, why didn't I win?". AND THEN it occurred to me how I never really try to win anything. This was the problem. So since then I have entered almost any contest that interests me and crosses my path. This time I won and it's a pretty awesome prize!!!

The Tommy Ton event that I attended a little while back had really paid off! I was one of 12 selected winners of these lovely framed photos that were displayed at the event. The photo includes these beautiful Balenciaga booties with specks of blue within the print. I can officially say I sorta own a pair of Balenciaga heels.

*Side-note* When I first received the voicemail from the lady from Holt Renfrew, all I heard was WINNER and SHOES! Not remembering what I had actually entered to win, I assumed I had won a brand spanking, expensive, new pair of shoes. I yelled across Sobey's to my coworker and she was excited for me! Then I listened to the message again and there you have it, I had won a photo of shoes.

At least I know these lovely little things won't hurt my feet.

All About Apples

I've started a little tradition. Apple picking every fall. It's a nice way to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and gain some local produce. This year I set out with the boy to Applewood Orchard and Winery.

I was inspired, while flipping through the Toronto Sun (odd, I know) to try and make a SCOOKIE. It's a cross between a scone and a cookie. Rita Demontis provided the recipe and it didn't look that difficult so I thought I would take apple picking one step further this year and actually make something with them!

If you want to try, here is the list of ingredients:

3/4 Cup of unsalted, softened butter
3/4 Cup granulated sugar
2 Eggs
1 Large apple (Spartan or Empire). Cored and grated. (I used two apples, I still felt that it could use more!)
2 1/2 Cups all purpose flour

Here is the final product! You can find the whole recipe here. They are quite tasty no matter the time of day. In the morning with tea or in the afternoon with your lunch. I would have liked to have taken photos of the whole process but truth be told I don't have all the fixings to bake prettily. When the recipe called for a second bowl I maybe had to use a pot, and I guesstimated with my tea and tablespoons. Yeah, not pretty. I have made a list and look forward to a complete kitchen!

Shoulders

It's one area that personally, I never really think of accentuating or dressing up. Yes the shoulder pad fad of the 80's was hideous however we have seen shoulders highlighted on the runways over the past couple of seasons. I like studs as you can tell from here and here and I like how it is mixed up with other various beading. I did however get one comment about being in battle, but isn't life like that sometimes?

I thought I would try it. I found an inexpensive shirt to see if it would work. Worn with basic boyfriend jeans and some simple black tie up wedges, I think it's cool.

One of my tasks to do at work is to media monitor. This is an obvious statement for anyone working in PR however I particularly love the fashion and beauty blogs I "have" to read through. One of my favourite blogs is ChickAdvisor.com. Not only because it is Canadian, I am all about Canadian media, but also because it is geared towards people like me! Women and girls that may not have made it yet, but want to look like they have! I also like their honest reviews of products and services and their joyful mix of fashion and beauty coverage. One post that stuck in my head turned out to be a project of mine that I just completed today!

ChickAdvisor.com made a post about the military trend happening this fall... on every street corner it seems. This look is great and I love the look of utiltarian mixed in more ways than one. Their post featured some accessories like this little beauty:

If I could afford designer's jewels I would be first in line. Serisouly, I would. Since I cannot (one day I will hopefully reach that point in my career where I can GOAL!) but at this point in my life I am left to be a little more creative. When I looked at the necklace I automatically starting building outfits surrounding it. This is a sign that I am in love. I love that it dabbles in the military trend yet keeps it classy. Both geographically and financially out of my reach (J.Crew $295) I had another thought after my initial though of defeat.

"Wait a second, I have something at home that looks like this?!?" Well two necklaces put together that COULD look like this! All I would need to do is gather some ribbon and bingo, bango, bongo it would be mine!

While strolling the Queen West area this afternoon with a girlfriend of mine I mentioned that I needed to pick up some ribbon. She knew just the place. Mokuba. I have never been or heard of it before but I now love. It's so pretty and it's just ribbons galore. HIGH END RIBBONS.

So yes not quite as impressive as the first yet I am more attached to this one because I made it :) I also chose to use grosgrain ribbon rather than the silkier J. Crew version because for some reason I just like it better.

It was fun, I like to get crafty every once in a while so I really shouldn't complain about not affording the first necklace rather be thankful for offering the inspiration.

So Fall 2010 is here and I am totally loving it. Yes, in a couple of months I will long for the lazy, hazy, hot and extra long days however in this very moment, I am enjoying wearing opaque tights. Everyone knows fall fashion is best.

This past Sunday (my new favourite day) was unexpectedly nice and I was shocked! Normally I am a fiend for The Weather Network and check it regularly to see what ~~my day~~ my outfit will look but somehow Sunday snuck up on me but I was pleasantly surprised! I decided to make it a summer meets fall kinda of day and spent it by:

Reading the October issues of my favourite fashion magazines

Picking up decorative gourds at the grocery store (one of my fav things to do for fall!). I love themes and nothing sets the tone for the fall season as gourds haha and it is also a funny word. GOURDS. Bring on the pumpkin and apple picking my friend because this lady is ready! My goal is to actually bake a pie this year. Every year I venture out to pick some apples and bring them all home, but never seem to make it to the next step. This year will be different. I will try to make an apple and pumpkin pie.

How is Lindsay STILL landing covers? She certainly is not your ideal poster girl. In and out of court and rehab, family matters and her career limiting moves prove that she is one wild child. The problem I have is that she seemed to have it all and then decided to give it all up. That ungrateful s.o.b. I know it's a lot easier to watch from the outside and judge but come on girl, get it together! I am cheering for you but not getting my hopes up.

Pintucks and Polka Dots

It's really the little things in life. The little details that make you smile. For me, on this day in particular it's pintucks and polka dots.

While studying costume design (*cough* for a short while) in school I really learned how to sew. I'm not talking about sewing a button back on a shirt rather making the cuff, collar and plackets of the shirt. Hardcore stuff. I really understood the time and skill that goes into making such fine details in a garment. Pintucks were one of the easier ones and once I mastered how to press properly without burning the material, I actually came to enjoy making them.

These particular pintucks are from my shower curtain, Pottery Barn.

Polka dots are nothing out of the ordinary yet I find them so perfect. This set of dishes that are actually nowhere near new or expensive just hold a little piece of my heart. They were thankfully brought home from their place of origin, Halifax, without a scratch.

I don't know what it is about this set of polka dots dishes that I love so much other than they speak to me. These are two pieces of my home that when I notice them during my day to day routines, make my heart a little happier.

An Urban Barn opened up right near my work so naturally I had to stop in. Having recently moved into a new place, I'm constantly on the look out for new pieces to add to my new home. After browsing through the store I noticed these lanterns and thought they were just too cute to boot! Not only would they add a little touch of color to the outside patio. Something it was lacking. I learned that it was from their Tin Man Line and were made out of old tin cans. The best part about it, they were on sale and only $6.00 each!

Two things that I love, friends and shoes, and last Wednesday night was the perfect marriage of the two. With an open bar of course :)

I was lucky to attend Holt Renfrew's Pic Me Tommy Ton! event last Wednesday night. I have been a follower of Tommy Ton's blog JAK & JILL for quite some time and have adored the shoes that he features. And the clothing, and the models etc. It was really cool to see the shoes in real life, well in clear cubes to be exact, but yeah still really cool.

Two fabulous, stylish and confident PR ladies that I am happy to call friends of mine.

Being at this event, obviously, there were some really stylish and cool people and being in that sort of atmosphere really inspires me to be MORE daring with the way I dress. Just like how watching Sex and the City does. Some of the stuff they wear is out of this world yet somehow they confidently, supported by the other 3 girls, pull it off. Like the bird on SJP'S head on her first wedding day.

There was a mix of people present but could tell the different between people that had style and the people that just wore name brands and displayed their money. Don't get me wrong I love me some name brands. I loved looking at all those fabulous shoes that were in their cases that I couldn't afford. I love looking through fashion magazines sand being inspired by the ostentatious styles and impracticality of it all but when it comes down do it, you either have style or you don't and if you think that style is just slapping some expensive products on your body, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree my friend.

NOW that I read this all over... I think I am respectfully disagreeing with myself. Who cares if you prefer to just wear brand names or go sans? Who cares what other people think? Who cares what I think for that matter. I have opinions yes but if what you are wearing makes you happy then I am all for it.

The funny thing about that photo is that after it was taken the photographer places his camera up to my face and I look up at him confused and don't say anything. He wanted me to say my name into the microphone (duh Kelly, didn't you know that all cool cameras have a sound recording device in them?). I felt that he was asking for me to type my name on the camera, which now sounds like a dumb idea but I have never had my picture taken like this before. Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed and never actually expected to see it again, especially not online. TOO funny.

Nothing better than a summer night. Nothing better than a summer night sitting outside listening to two of your favorite artists with someone you love. THAT WILL BE ME next weekend while I sit in the Molson Amphitheater with the boy. So super excited to see David Gray and Ray LaMontagne.

As cliche as it may sound, I feel in love with David Gray with one of his first albums White Ladder. This album is too good for words. With the tracks including: My Oh My, Please Forgive me, Sail Away, Say Hello, Wave Goodbye and lastly This Years Love, this album takes me to so many places at once including St. Peter's Catholic High School's coffee houses and young love relationships. I love how music can literally transport you.

The only thing that could make this evening better would be another favorite artist of mine. Introducing Ray LaMontagne. LOVE HIM. When Pandora, that cool free music site (no long available to Canadians) was up and running, I heard the song Shelter and my heart melted. Seriously it did. Even though it is a sad song I still love it and the message makes me feel warm inside. If he plays this song (fingers crossed) I will be in tears, no doubt.

unpacking life and getting it organized

Sooooo I've been in the cozy cottage (my new apartment ) for about 3 weeks now and it's still not done! Being summer and all the last thing I want to do is stay inside to unpack or spend hours in line ups in stores. The past couple of weekends I have been up north and or had visitors. I can no longer take it and am committing to have everything finished this next weekend. The one major job that I am most excited about is the closet :) Of course right? I love my clothing (pathetic to some, yes) but I like to take care of it also. I feel bad for my winter jackets all stuffed up in a box. I can't wait to be a proud homeowner and dedicate a whole room into a closet. It's amazing how some things can be so normal for some and yet so weird for others. I would totally make an extra room in my home a large closet, to some that just seems wrong.

Since this apartment is just a rental, I won't be investing too much into but I can't wait to be the crazy homeowner that turns the extra bedroom in a closet and can put up WALLPAPER!

Okay, I know I'm late on the comment but I just saw the Hermes Fall 2010 RTW show on Fashion Television last night and actually can't stop thinking about it. I loved it. I loved the set, the music, the leather and of course the designer.

There were a lot of great models that walked that runway but honestly Lily Cole stole the show! I don't know if it was the red hair or the boobs but something just made her seems more real and relatable.

Rachel Zoe - "I Die" for Fashion Spread in Harper's Bazaar

Amazing. I love these photos. Since having the Rachel Zoe Project back on my tele, she has kinda grown on me. She has pretty much coined the phrase "I Die" whenever she is overly excited about something and has (in my opinion) wrongly accused Taylor Jacobson, the only girl on that show that actually lifted their finger, of stealing samples... that she doesn't even fit into. Apparently the first episode of season 3, everyone including cute boy Brad rips on Taylor. Rachel does appear to love the dramz. I personally find her too ~~anorexic~~ unnaturally skinny, whiney and somewhat scary looking but she does have a super cool job and I ~~usually~~ occasionally agree with her taste. Mostly when she is dressing Jen Garner, SO PRETTY! AND anyone that can land a spread with those wicked designers deserves some mad cred.

Cozy Cottage

Can you tell I'm excited??
I'm calling it the cottage and it's an upgrade from the "den". I will departing from my den in exactly three days. The walls are looking bare, the closet is mostly empty... it is kinda nice actually not having to sub-come to taking something down and folding it. ugghhh I shutter a bit when that happens. If I had it my way, I would hang EVERYTHING so it was like I was shopping every morning. Oh AND wooden hangers ONLY thats a must :)

This one looks NOTHING like how mine, or ours, will look but I would take it. Did I mention I would be sharing it? With a boy!!

While packing up my shoes I felt really guilty putting them all in one large box. I really love my things and that just seemed like the lazy, unorganized and mean way to transport them. If I had the time or money I would totally invest in a couple of these bad boys.

So I haven't been running very much. Not much at all. Was supposed to do a 16km run last weekend and that didn't happen. Not even close. But all of that is going to change TODAY. Going for a run and making it count.

Complete the 10km in Muskoka for August long weekend in under 50min (I have done this before but when I was ACTUALLY training)

Finish the Scotiabank Half Marathon in under 2 hours. Totally doable, I hope.

1. CAMERA FOUND! A guess that heavy drinking in celebration of Canada Day, allowed me to forget it in a ~~friend's~~ best friend's car. Can't wait to get it back to shoe you my new favorite nude wedges.

2. FASHIONABLE FLATS: They are necessary. Don't get me wrong, I love heels however, flats tend to be a more tedious task at being a little more fashionable. Michael Kors has introduced a new ankle bootie that I am sure to add to my fall wardrobe. I love Michael Kors' shoes. I love his designs. Classic. My eye is consistently drawn whenever flipping through photos. Whether it's his look on the runway or a piece in the editorials, I can usually find him amongst the crowd.

Crazy that we are thinking about fall already but anyone that has been in a store lately can see the dark colors seeping in through the bright tees and the long sleeves extended over those short shorts. I am a little indifferent with this change of season because I LOVE summer weather however I also equally LOVE fall fashion. I am anxiously waiting for all the September mags. Mostly the Vogue. It's like a bible. It's lovely.

HAPPY belated CANADA DAY!!!!
Totally lost my camera that day, major bummer. Well, I may have just temporarily misplaced it but we will see. Anyways, back to BRIGHT and NEW. This past long weekend was a great time to soak up the sun and really get into the heat of the summer. The good weather was kind to my skin and the golf game reminded me to play more.

New job: Tomorrow is a pretty big day for me, starting a new job. So clearly I had to get something NEW and this time around it revealed to being something BRIGHT. A little out of the ordinary for me, don't get me wrong, I love bold colors but I tend to stick to neutrals. I had watched the trend forecast of adding a tight and bright mini to your summer wardrobe but THIS one however felt a little more work appropriate and lets be honest, I didn't want to be the butt end of any "Tight and Bright Party" comments.

And if you are an avid reader of my blog you may be aware of the fact that I like to shop from my main man Joe. Joseph Mimram that is. Joe Fresh that is. You would NEVER guess how much this pretty blue silk little number set me back...NEVER... okay I will tell you. It was a whopping $3.94. Can you believe it? That is less than a drink at Starbucks at times. I simply could not pass it up.

While organizing myself for tomorrow I realized that since I love organization and stationary that I was due for a new notebook. A fresh book for a fresh start.

Since I am not only a lover of stationary but also a lover of Moleskine, I was pleased that Chapters offered a nice collection of the lovely colored notebooks. Something that will help brighten up my day. I opted for the green. The Volant Notebooks come in packages of two, with two shades of the same color.

As I embark on my new journey, I hope this book will remind me that no matter what today brings, it will always be brighter tomorrow. :)

OMG20 What Should I wear?

ALRIGHT how could I not comment on it?

The G20 is happening and since there is so much hype surrounding it I feel the need to say something. Ya know, my POV. For me, I feel like it's a movie thats going to be a big flop. I live literally on the other side of the fence, RIGHT OUTSIDE the yellow security zone. Yeah, there have been fences built for a while now, and cops galore, I just don't see the crazies. Thats what I was hoping for some good old fashioned entertainment.

Honestly, this G20 Summit is more like a camp for cops. The RCMP look scared, like they have never been in a city. They are all in there little ~~cabins~~ sweet hotel rooms set up downtown Toronto. They get to hang out, play, ride bikes and horses all outside in the heat of the summer. Sounds like a good time to me. Yeah, yeah I know, that when it gets serious... soon enough.... they will be there to guard and protect the leaders just like Kasey would have done for Ali's heart on the Bachlorette.

Also the G20 has conveniently served people with "working from home" which can easily translate to "taking time off".

Unfortunately I will not be around for this weekend festivities to make any further comments however you may follow The Glamour Den which is a HILarious blog that will certainly keep you up to speed.

Crazy for Crochet

I wish I had a vintage piece that I could pull from my mother's closet but unfortunately I feel that she probably diminished her whole bohemian wardrobe when the shoulder pads and teasing hair of the 80's came to town. Luckily crochet is back and I am lovin' it!

Vintage Touch

I love all accessories old and new.
I especially love accessories when they hold meaning. Whether it comes in the form of a blue box from a certain someone or a handed down piece to add to your collection, it seems to add value that no mastercard can buy, priceless shall we say? :)

I have been fortunate enough to have a grandmother who was fashionable in her youth. I use to play dress up in her wedding gown, wigs jewelry and fur coats.

This clutch has literally come to the rescue many times. You really can't go wrong with a mid-sized black patent leather clutch, it goes with everything, fits almost everything (lip gloss, cards, camera, iphone) pretty much what you need for a good night on the town. It's also pretty cool how it was in style then and a number of years (won't give away your age here grams) later, it's one of the most functional pieces of my wardrobe.

This clutch was also ~~stolen from my~~ given to me by my grandmother. Keeping it all in the family. One day I will find those photos of me dressed up in her wedding dress... killer photos.

I love it so much that I tend to spend more money in the Joe Fresh section of the superstore than any other aisle. It's kind of embarrassing. He is perfect for who I am at the moment and that is a girl that LOVES Fashion and is on a non-paid internship kind of budget. A tight one :)

One of my fav new pieces are my clogs (enter my mother rolling her eyes here). You see, she hates them with a PASSION. She hates how she used to wear them and how they are now back in style. I try to tell her to embrace them and anything else that trots along the Chanel runway.

My latest purchase is a risky one... retro style bikini. High rise bikini bottoms...RISKY... from the change room I THINK it looked okay... We will have to see about this one. The good thing is that I didn't spend a pretty penny so if its awful I can still use the top! I'll ponder over posting a picture ... haha

I love it when people just go for it.

It is so inspiring.

Even better when you feel that they are amazing at what they do and are going for something that you full heartedly believe that they will achieve!

Last night it was brought to my attention of a friend of a friend, well lets just call him my friend... I've known the guy for a couple of years, shared a couple pints, we're friends. Anyways, I saw his audition to be on the second season of the show Drafted: The Search for Canada's Next Sportscaster. Check out his awesome video HERE. (maybe the more views he has, the better chance of making the show?)

I am not an avid sports fan nor do I pretend to be. I like seeing games live because you can enjoy them with a bevie and it's a lot more engaging. I like attempting to play SOME sports... like golf and thats about it...haha anyways but if there is one thing I know about Sports is that Mark Sheldon is to Sports like Anna Wintour is to Fashion.

I wish him ALL the best in the competition, I just know he will go far and if he doesn't win the darn thing, I hope he gets a little recognition for it.

but honestly WHO GETS SICK around THIS WONDERFUL TIME OF YEAR.

Sure maybe when its the dead of winter and it's cold outside and you left the house without your hat and scarf. That makes sense to me but NOW? Especially right now when it's 30+ degrees outside, which may I add is AWESOME, and this being my first summer back in Ontario after a couple on the east coast, I'm pretty stoked.

I am also that girl that everyone knows, because I tell everyone, THAT NEVER GETS SICK, proceeded by a knock on wood. Well I guess I am just going to stop saying that. I also embarrassingly never really believed people when they call in sick or would complain about being sick. I would just roll my eyes and think to myself your hung over... UNLESS I knew for sure they were actually sick. Mean I know. What can I say? It was drilled into my head since I was young to always suck it up and if you didn't need to go to the hospital you were fine. I will also stop doing that.

I feel really bad for the ladies in the office yesterday that had to listen to me blow my nose non-stop. EW. That is just the worst, being stuck in a room with a bad case of a runny nose. I hate those people and that was me yesterday until I took myself home. Sorry ladies!

Alright enough whining and complaining...fashion fix! Before this sickness hit me I was out and about and found a great steal that was actually inspired by SJP. I love the military look! I used to have a pair of these from the Gap several years ago, I remember wearing them at camp but are long gone. I wish I could just keep all of my clothes instead of getting rid of them. Well I kinda sorta do. I have learned from my mistake of throwing away key pieces and tend to hold on to a lot of things.

Anyways these were a great find at Urban Outfitters. I can't wait to rock them with some sweet heels. Still on the hunt for some good strappy sandal heels! Any recommendations?

P.S. I LOVED SEX AND THE CITY 2, I don't care what anyone else says, it was funny, it was fashion and it was them. Anyone that says they don't like it are people that over think things and are boring. There I said it.

Anyone who has "fashion" as part of their likes in their blogger profile has or is blogging about the 4 ladies that are about to appear on screen Thursday, May 27th. For others, they will be seeing them tomorrow night! I am so excited, I'm part of the "others". No really I am.

I, as most of my girlfriends have done, watched the season upon season over and over numerous times. I have that trivia game that came out a couple of years ago, Christmas gift for sure. Lets just say I'm a fan. Anyways I just can't wait to hear the opening tunes and feel those goose-bumps on my arms!

Here are the ladies at the premiere. Stunning! The dresses are awesome but my actual favorite is SJP's hair color! It really makes me wanna go blonde again... thinking about it...thought about being a veggie to but that still hasn't happened. Damn I really need to see Food Inc. That just reminded me.

Anywho, I am going tomorrow to see this movie and I can't flippin wait. I honestly don't always LOVE movies. I get bored REALLY easily and grow tired of the story of most. This one however as someone has previously called it like "porn for fashionistas" and I know I won't be doozing off with this flick!

Most people I have spoken with regarding the film have pretty low expectations of the plot. It's always better to go in with lower expectations anyways, it can only get better!

I won't write a review too quickly as I am sure most people will need a couple of days but those that wait too long are just not hard core enough and deserve a spoiler anyways :)

The start of summer

May 24 long weekend has broken it's record of awful weather and it feels so GOOD. I spent my May 24 hanging in the sun by my parents pool while browsing through the new issue of VOGUE, with the hot as ever Blake Lively, graces the cover. I just love her.

It feels like sumer and with summer brings a whole new wardrobe. MY FAVORITE! Although it would be really nice to live somewhere where it was summer ALL the time I KNOW for sure that I would miss my wool pea coats and leather boots. I'm sure I would find a way to recover :) I'm feeling the nice light pastels designers have brought to the forefront for Spring 10 and one little rookie designer has inspired me to combine my two fav trends: the pastels and tie dye

Since I can't have these shorts. (sold out anyways... EVEN if I could afford them right now)

I opted for another Whitney Eve inspired piece. This pastel tye-dyed scarf.

As soon as I saw it, it was one of those "had to have it moments". It's from French Connection and they were having a wicked sale, 40% regular priced items. Even better. I love the colors and softness of it, I'm not normally a fan of jersey scarves but for this one, I could make the exception.

Today marks my first day of my internship yahoooo! So exciting to be finally officially DONE with school yo... and into the working world!!!!

Not going to lie it was kinda awkward at times. It is always awkward at a new job placement. You don't know the routines or the rules or if its cool to chew gum, or use the washroom yadda yadda... It was great and I'm glad to say that it's done and I'm looking forward to day TWO!

Those of you that know me, know that I love accessories in every way shape and form and I also love to dress in a Nautical theme. Navy and white, so classy and timeless. This bracelet is my newest and favorite addition and is also very timely as I head to the Maritimes in a couple of days for one last visit before the boy and I continue our lives in Toronto!

To be completely honest I can't exactly pinpoint why. A number of people in my life, at the moment, are vegetarians and it just seems like a healthier way of eating and life. When I cook for myself and I rarely ever use meat and have discovered lots of other great sources of protein like my new fav, the black bean!

I'm going to personally investigate further but in the mean time I would love to share with you one my favorite side/salad! I cannot take credit for the recipe as my friend Car shared it with me.

***DISCLAIMER***

I am not a very good cook. Sure I can make a mean grilled cheese here and there but I wouldn't say I'm great at cooking. I am however increasingly enjoying cooking for myself and catch myself making some things I would have ever expected!

Needless to say, this recipe is easy and if I can do it, so can you!

INGREDIENTS:

1. Quinoa

2. Can of black beans

3. Mushrooms

4. Onion

5. Zucchini

6. Goat Cheese

Steps to making a nice quinoa salad:

1. Sautee the onion, mushrooms and zucchini in a pan with a small amount of oil and garlic. Depending on how large of a salad you are making you may use all of the veggies but for a smaller portion just use half!

2. Follow the directions for the quinoa on the package. Most of them say to wash the grain before placing it in the boiling water to cook but since I don't have a strainer at the moment so I have just skipped this step, hope its not important for my health haha!

For a personal sized salad, I generally use 1/2 a cup of quinoa and this usually lasts 2 meals!

You can also choose to make the quinoa in vegetable broth instead of water for a little more taste too!

3. After the quinoa has been cooked in it's pot and has stood for a while after fluffing place in a large mixing bowl.

3. Place the sauteed veggies into quinoa and mix. Add in the goat cheese in small amounts as it tends to stick together!

and you are DONE! You can enjoy this salad warm OR cold and its great for bringing to work!

Double Denim

So, I woke up this morning and just had the courage to do it. Today, Monday April 19th 2010, I wore denim on denim. It was much simpler than I had anticipated and frankly quite comfortable. It's a risky move but I like how my friend Farah put it, denim on denim is fine as long as it's not both on top and bottom. I wore my light washed oversized denim button up with my medium wash Levi jacket. The Canadian Tuxedo as some call it.

I don't think there is anyway they had a stylists but man is this bad. I kinda feel sick looking at it.

Seen on the runways some women can really rock it but for this Monday I feel like the girls above reflect a little more how I am feeling :)

The Home Stretch

Oh man so close I can taste it but not just yet. DAMN.

School is wrapping, two more weeks left!!! Can't even believe it. Feels like just yesterday I was reading that acceptance letter. There is still a boat load of work to do still but the end is in sight my friends, and it looks sunny and bright!

While one door closes, another door opens right? Well here are some new beginnings I am REALLY looking forward to:

1) The boy got a job in the city! Yep the big city of the Toronto. Couldn't be more excited.

2) Internship starting. Expecting the unexpected.

3) New living space, don't get me wrong I don't mind running into celebs such as Elisha in my building but this way I will be moving in with you know who :)

4) Summer weather - who isn't excited for this one... Having been on the east coast the past two summers, I'm excited about spending this summer in Ontarriable and closer to my backyard and pool at my parents.

5) Getting pedicures and NOT have to put that plastic wrap over your toes before you put your foot in your shoe. (this could perhaps just be a Beauty Line thing, a nice cheap mani pedi at King W and Bathurst) Sandals it will be from now on.

The other night I was out for a few drinks with a close friend of mine. We were sharing a bottle of wine and happened to order the same meal but what really made the dinner complete was our server! Oddly enough after another round of wine, we felt that we should hang out with this server, he was so cool, funny and gay so our boyfriends wouldn't feel the need to get their back up!

First we asked if he was online, facebook perhaps? and to be completely honest I don't remember the answer haha BUT we took his number. In an afterthought, it was strange that I was going to look him up online rather than drop him a text, old school I guess.

I sometimes would rather just pick up the phone than sit around and wait for a message or text, quicker, easier and straight to the point!

I texted him after we left and we should be setting up a date sometime soon :)

Well school is almost done... AH-mazing... can't believe that it's almost over! It's April 12th, and looking back at my last posts... I haven't written since MARCH 30TH? wtf mate...

ALTHOUGH school is almost done, there is what feels like a mountain of school work to be completed before we are able to celebrate. What better time to do a little recreational writing :)

This post's fashion inspiration is derived from none other than HUMBER classmates! Please see miss E's boots for item #1. Miss E is always fashion forward but these boots were not just made for walking but rather made to kick some PR ass.

Item #2 is from the watch diva miss nic who owns NOT just ONE runway watch from Michael Kors but TWO...dare I say jealous?? I spotted this little ditty from across writing lab and had to take a pic... it will be mine one day.

There have been SO many times I see fashionable, fashionable, fashionable people (Joel Plaskett?) and I want to take a picture and I'm either too shy, don't have a camera (other than the iphone) and or in a rush! Man The Sartorialist has a sweet job. I do often take some pics of some hilarious fashion faux pas however... see below for some hideous billowy pleats on this gentleman, it's a little too close for comfort (isn't the subway always?) but I just couldn't resist.

Oh man, if this guy only knew... anyways back to more me time with a nice HOT YOGA class at Tula, with one of my friends from work!

People often ask me why I am so ridiculously good looking, I think this picture of my grandmother above explains it all! She's a hottie, and that sorta thing gets passed down. This picture is from the '50s in South Beach Florida. A place me and the boy liked to frequent last year. ahhh Ocean Dr.

Anyways, I owe them. The family that is. Everyone does but I feel that I owe mine for so many different reasons and in a seemingly larger way. They have surely made me who I am today and I am very thankful for it. Since I often speak of fashion and personal style, that is one thing I can credit to a lady who, in the picture below, is my Aunt and personal source of fashion inspiration.

This picture is from quite a while ago now but I had been meaning to write about it for a while. Sitting in class today, in desperate need of some inspiration, I turned to my agenda and there was the photo of my grandmother. It then occurred to me what was going on and why I wasn't feeling the vibe to write. I was looking for things to write about whether it be a new item in my closet or a coveted pair of shoes I so dearly wanted but nothing was coming to me. So for once in a long while, I looked inward and found a little inspiration from my fam.

As I mentioned before I am thankful for everyone in my family who has helped shaped who I am today yet I do want to credit my Aunt for my the style I have today. If it wasn't for her keen eye and great sense of class and elegance I really don't know where I would be or what I would be dressed like. Her daughter was the one I mentioned in an earlier post who gave me all those great hand-me-down items that really peeked my interest in clothing at such an early age. She has, without knowing it, shaped how I wear things today.

For any sort of special event, be it a wedding or just a really rad party, I knew I could rely on her for knowing what was up to date on the runways and she could steer me in the right direction. I even went as far as consulting her through e-mail and having her take a look at the photos of my outfits before I went ahead with it. I always knew she would be honest and it always surprised me when she congratulated me on finding something inexpensive yet chic. Those items were almost always from Winners. A large personal fav.

She knows that I owe her for more than just her style inspiration but I just wanted to thank her and I thought that this would be a nicer way than a simple plain old e-mail.

To my lovely Aunt with all your style and grace, THANK YOU.
